Design Highlights
Alt Control
Fishy feel is controlled by Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital’s ScreenPlay technology. Players step on floor tiles in the play area, and platforms in the corresponding location on screen appear! Find out more about ScreenPlay here.
Easily Accessible
Considering the target audience of a wide range of age, mobility, and motor control, Fishy Feels must be engaging to all.
Children with less mobility and/or younger can simply step on tiles and create platforms with attractive particles.
A bird drops down easily accessible fish and the cat will move towards it if the player is unable to reach the bucket in a set time, easier to obtain compared to the bucket of fish.
Older players with finer mobility can strive for the goal of helping the cat reach the large bucket of fish.
Actively invites new player to join with apparent cat animation, and line indicating game’s goal.
Roles and Contributions
Game Design
With accessibility being the key focus, I conceptualized the idea not wanting to compromise on the game aspect for more able players. Along other team members, we further developed the idea to support a wider range of players with different difficulty level of objectives.
Art and Animation
Animation states set up for smooth cat transitions, used by programmer for implementation.
Original environment concept, lighter design was used for better contrast.
Cat jump animation. Due to time constraint and consideration for better visibility, black silhouette design was used.
